Caring Veterinarians

Ross Burd, DVM

Dr. Ross Burd, DVMDr. Ross Burd has had a lifelong fascination with caring for animals. As a teenager, Dr. Burd was the "go-to-person" for sick neighborhood pets. Veterinary medicine is his calling, and he enjoys educating clients and forming relationships with the pets that come into the hospital each day. He has owned Oxford Animal Hospital since 1990 and continues to practice and act as administrator.

Dr. Burd is a 1987 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. A native of Wyoming, his pre-veterinary education includes a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree, both in Microbiology, from the University of Wyoming.

After receiving his doctorate degree in veterinary medicine, Dr. Burd spent 18 months in a 12-doctor specialty practice in Mesa, Arizona, where his professional interest in dog and cat reproduction (theriogenology) blossomed. He has spent many hours attending continuing education seminars as well as post-doctoral courses in the fields of canine and feline reproduction. In 1992, International Canine Genetics approached Dr. Burd to serve as their freezing center representative in Kansas.

Dr. Burd is a breeder's veterinarian. He has been involved with showing and breeding Golden Retrievers since 1982 and is interested in becoming a licensed judge for the American Kennel Club. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Kansas Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Dental Society, Society of Theriogenology, Kansas City Golden Retriever Club, and the Golden Retriever Club of America.

At home, Dr. Burd enjoys the companionship of three Golden Retrievers, Auggie, Sage, and Pampers; a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Emma; and the numerous fish that live in his 900-gallon reef aquarium. Traveling, cooking, and remodeling are just some of his many hobbies.

Kevin Sambol, DVM

Dr. Kevin Sambol, DVMDr. Kevin Sambol is a lifelong Kansas resident and a 1982 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary medicine. He received his pre-veterinary Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology from Kansas State University in 1982.

Following veterinary school graduation, Dr. Sambol experienced several areas of the veterinary profession (ask him sometime about working with an adult male gorilla at the Kansas City Zoo). He practiced as an emergency veterinarian for five years, long before "Emergency Vets" was on cable, and he was the lead veterinarian at the Kansas City Stockyards (yes he is that old). Dr. Sambol owned his own practice in Olathe, Kansas for 14 years, and also worked as the hospital manager at the Olathe Banfield Hospital for four years. Dr. Sambol is very happy to have returned to private practice and thrilled to have joined Dr. Burd and his team at Oxford Animal Hospital.

Dr. Sambol has a wide variety of interests including sports - ranging from everything having to do with Kansas State Athletics, the Chiefs, the Royals, music and outdoor activities such as fishing. Dr. Sambol lives in Johnson County with his wife, Debbie, their children Dan, Liz, and A.J., as well as a Golden Retriever, Abby ("the best dog I've ever had"), and his Persian cat, Rudy, (he was a Christmas Eve present to Debbie, so he is named after Rudolph).

Being a veterinarian is Dr. Sambol's calling. He is knowledgeable, compassionate, enthusiastic and always has a smile on his face while caring for your four-legged family member at Oxford Animal Hospital.
