Your Pet's Surgery

Safe and Advanced Surgical Care

SurgeryYour pet receives the safest, most advanced surgical care possible at Oxford Animal Hospital. We handle most surgical procedures, including basic soft tissue surgeries such as spay and neuter procedures, as well as many orthopedic procedures, including Securos ACL surgery. For more complicated cases, we may refer you to a local specialist if we feel it would be appropriate for the well-being of your pet. Your pet has access to advanced veterinary surgical technology at our hospital, including a surgical laser. We plan to offer offer laparoscopic spay procedures and laparoscopic-assisted stomach fixation surgeries in the near future.

Your pet's safety and comfort are our highest priorities. All pets receive a complete evaluation before surgery. This evaluation is used to design an effective anesthetic and pain management protocol. The latest anesthetic and monitoring devices are used to ensure your pet's complete comfort and safety during all surgery procedures.

Your Pet's Surgery

When your pet visits Oxford Animal Hospital for a surgical procedure, we ensure his or her safety every step of the way. All pets undergo a pre-surgical exam, and we provide pre-surgical pain management using Fentanyl patches. Oxford Animal Hospital utilizes the latest anesthetic protocols, including Isoflurane inhalant and propoflo anesthesia, as well as ketamine-valium, an injectable anesthetic combination. During surgery, we monitor your pet's temperature, heart and respiratory rate, and C02 levels using sophisticated monitoring equipment. A trained veterinary technician is present before, during and after surgery to ensure your pet's comfort. After surgery, your pet is given pain medication to provide comfort and promote a speedy recovery.

Laser Surgery

Laser SurgeryLaser surgery is extremely beneficial for your pet and we employ advanced laser technology for many surgical procedures. Compared to traditional surgery that use a scalpel, laser surgery causes less bleeding and less tissue damage. Because the laser seals nerve endings and coagulates blood vessels as it cuts, swelling is reduced and your pet experiences less post-surgical discomfort. Laser surgery allows your pet to recover quickly from surgical procedures and improves quality of life for both you and your pet. We use laser surgery most often for pain-free feline declaw procedures and the removal of skin warts and bumps.
